Just some random photos as we moved south to San Leandro California. The original plan was to go to the boat in the Sacramento river delta.  Then late summer heat said no….predictions of over 90 degrees with a faulty air conditioning unit aboard the boat, we decided that the better path would be to just go to the cooler bay area weather.  It got 80 degrees yesterday but average has been under 70.

So, back to the original idea for this post…some random photos of our trip through Oregon and northern California. The trip started off pretty boring as we just traveled straight down interstate 5 to Eugene Oregon. From Eugene we headed across and met Highway 101 at Florence.  Southbound on 101 to Lakeside where we walked on the beach and had lunch on the tailgate.dunes2dunes1

Then it was off south bound again as we wanted to spend the night in Crescent City California

Port Orford, Oregon was a nice stop.

I know there is a duplicate of this boat on here, but I was pretty taken with it as I kinda have a thing for old boats…. This is at the Rogue river where Hwy 101 goes over it where the jet boat tours start.

After spending the night at the Lighthouse Inn in Crescent City California, we got back on the road following Hwy 101 south.  As we got into the redwoods Rocky (my Garmin with a squirrel voice) got really confused.  At one point he had us a quarter mile from the road in the middle of the trees.

Shortly after this picture was taken,  Rocky had us driving into the Pacific Ocean even though we were definitely high and dry on the highway.   Gotta love the deep woods where a satellite can’t even find you.

We decided to pack lunches this trip and as it was nearly lunch time we started looking for a place to eat.  We had come into the Mendocino wine country and decided to grab a bottle of red to go with the dinner we were told was simmering on Maxines’ stove.  We pulled into the Nelson family winery and found a very pretty 2000 acre farm run by three generations.  The beast just  naturally took to the dirt road alongside the tasting room and seemed to park himself in the shade of a beautiful stand of redwoods.

Headed inside and met with our hostess who provided me with a couple tastes, one of their ice reisling and another of the “BARN BLEND” both are very nice and we decided to go with the barn blend as dinner was going to be sloppy Joe’s.  We also secured permission to use a wonderful barrel table under the redwoods for our lunch.
