Paris by the Seine
We got lucky (for us) and awoke to a sunny morning and headed off the the River Seine for a tour via boat.
We arrived at the dock right on time to get our tickets for a morning sailing and got right onto the boat and procured a seat right in the open bow! As the boat pulled away from the dock, the English speaking tour guide started a running monologue on the history of the river and the sights along it. This is a perfect way to see the main attractions along the river. No real crowd, fresh air, sun streaming down and a perspective you don’t get from the land.
The views from the river afford you scenes on the bridges and the other boats that cannot be seen from the shore. We got to see the relief sculptures along the river and on the bridge facades as well as great exterior views of the Louvre, Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame.
We understand that a night cruise along the Seine is a must do but alas, had not put aside time for it. This did not deter us nor hinder our enjoyment of the river. The people along the Seine waved at the passing boats and the denizens living on the river boats were smiling as we passed. We did walk the banks of the Seine during the evening and there were indeed lovers and dog walkers out and about. We saw people eating their lunches along the banks of the river too.
All in all, we had some fun and some trials in the city (definitely read flynnandollie.com for more on this) but enjoyed our stay.
Should we find ourselves back in Paris at any time, you can bet that we will be found somewhere along the river.
