Working…
…Or as R.P. says, yachting on the company dime.
Let’s see, I work 8 ten hours days every two weeks. Of those 8 days on, I have usually been on the sound 5 of those days doing 5 he Gweduc monitor job. This means that I provide for the safety of the divers and monitor the harvest of the giant clams to ensure conservation of the resources. Of course that means I am out here on the salt water.
The boats…
The Whaler: a 25 foot Boston Whaler Frontier. This boat has been around for a while. It was procured by the department after being used as a photographic platform by the National geographic folks. It has recently gone through some upgrades and is our primary monitor vessel. It now sports a single 300 hp Yamaha motor, two marine vhf radios, a police radio, new lighting and everything has been rewired.
So what do I do out here? Mostly bob around like a cork. I keep an eye on the harvest boats, see what the clams look like, make sure all the divers are actually diving and sometimes just sit alongside and shoot the bull.
I often see a lot of wildlife; porpoise, gray whales, orcas, seals, otters, eagles.
that is awesome. I am happy for you .
