*&^%$#$%^ Winter
Grumble, grumble.
We all know the vision of retirement and travelling inn our RV and “chasing 70” to stay warm and happy with boat drinks in our hands and not having to deal with the hassles of winter because we are always in the sun belt.
Southern Arizona in the winter. Sunny and 70 during the day, crisp and cool in the evenings with a chance of drinks and fireplaces. This was how we spent November and December (ok, it was fairly cold a few nights above 4,000 feet elevation). Hunkered down in an Escapees Co-op park with cheap overhead. We moved on to Quartzsite and the big tent in January and then off to Apache Junction for our warranty appointment (don’t ask). Beautiful weather until the wind came in and the snow and rain. How weird to wake up to snow capping the Superstition mountains and 35mph sustained winds with gusts that would turn a sailor green.
That’s all good, cuz we headed out to Las Vegas for some mail and sit down entertainment and the wind increased so much we had to spend one night with the slides in to keep our toppers intact. Great views of the heavy snows up on Mount Charleston but then it invaded our space here in the valley. Argh, when will winter go back to the north and leave us freezing snowbirds alone?
Don’t get me wrong, I like the snow as much as anyone else (except maybe a Canadian, eh) but I want to take it at my pace. I don’t need it thrust on me like and unwelcome advance from some crack momma. I want to take the crisp weather at my decision with the appropriate clothes and drinks.
We have plans to go to our home park in the Sierras in California (which usually gets very little snow) and now I have to dodge a wicked winter storm to get there and may get snowed in after we get set up. Tried to think of ways to avoid this nightmare but the family needs a visit and we have to change loadouts on Bebop and we are so close from Vegas that it makes no sense to not do it.
Anyway,
The trip from Apache Junction to the Oasis Las Vegas RV Resort went without a hitch and we travelled straight through. We arrived at OLVRV well before dark and got set up. This is a welcome park for us as we have been staying here since we got our first 5er in 2016. This is a familiar place and yet we are a little disappointed in our old home. The rates have gone up, the personal customer service doesn’t seem to be as it was a mere 6 years ago and it just seems to not be as welcoming as it was. We love it here anyway though.
Some poker in Las Vegas (see the F&O chronicle) and some errands. Old friends, friends and fun. More is in order as we extended our stay here for a bit to (hopefully) avoid the worst of the Snow in the Sierras.
Next installment coming soon. Just wanted to whine publicly.
Til next time.
