Southbound
You make me Happy……
Anyone else remember those lyrics?
Anyway: We headed south out of Tumwater on (gasp!!!!!!) Friday the 13th.
Yep, it’s another road trip for me and RP. And where else could possibly be the destination? (You get three chances and the first two don’t count). Congratulations, you nailed it right off…….Vegas bound. Not gonna be quite the mad dash it was last time as the weather is here (wish you were beautiful…..I know, lyrics again).
We left in the afternoon and pointed The Beast, with Piper trailing nicely along, south on I-5 with our sights set on Sutherlin, Oregon. We ran south at a decent pace and got through Portland fine. It was Salem that hit us with an hours delay. The run was nice and sunny and without incident.
We pulled into the Umpqua Golf and RV Resort at about 9:30 pm, to find the office staffed (we had let them know we were going to be late). He pointed us to our spot and compared to many other RV parks, it was a breeze to navigate through after dark. As I’m setting up Piper for the night, I keep seeing flashes behind me…..I turn around and watch and realize that it is lightning coming in across the coast range. The thunder starts and a light rain. RP and I watch the great show for a bit before heading inside This place has nice pull throughs with water, power and sewer. They charged us $27.00 for the night. There is a brick and mortar bathroom/shower at hand as well. They offer pretty good rates for golfing and RV combinations, but we are just there for the night. RP makes some great Brats and salad for dinner and we rack out.
Get up on Saturday morning and head south, gotta remember the easyoung access places for diesel with Piper along. Stopped at a favorite old pull off from when we rode the bikes this route and picked up a postcard to send to a couple of our favorite twitter folks…. @Briscomutt and his dad @bjnemeth. Brisco is a handsome fella and BJ is a really nice guy.
RP has put some pics online under her twitter account (@ErinMaj). Our goal this evening was the Merced River RV Resort in Delhi, CA. A long run down out of the mountains and we switch over to highway 99 from interstate 5.
Got a call when we are about 2 hours out from the RV Park and they confirm the site and after hours check in procedure. The park is easy to find, we just plugged in the address to Rocky and he brought us right in. Check in was painless (after hours) and we went right to our full hook up, pull thru site with no problems. Set Piper up and broke out the grill.
Part of the fun that we couldn’t enjoy on our last trip is getting to grill. Well, I set that sucker up and set about building a good fire whilst RP got the fixings out. Slapped a couple nice fatty burgers on and she made salads to go with. Accompanied by a Left Hand Milk Stout for me and a Mikes Hard Lemonade for RP.
After dinner we strolled around the park, this is a nice place right on the river. There are a lot of full time residents but it is not a trashy place. Nice big field with play areas, dog off leash area and a club house with a pool. They are also part of the Good Sam network.
Well, it’s been a long day and a shower is definitely in order.
We’ll see ya out there. If ya see the Beast and Piper or RP and I say HI.
