McNeill Island
So, the start of a new season is upon us as far as the Gweduc harvest goes.
For those of you who haven’t been following the blog, I am spending most of my time on Puget sound as a harvest monitor for the tribe.
So anyway, here it goes. They opened a new gweduck Harvest track off of McNeil Island penitentiary. This is an area that has never been done before to anyone’s knowledge it’s kind of a small Harvest area that is producing some very large gweduck.
The following will be some photographs are taken out here well on track. It is interesting to note that the photographs of the penitentiary from the water depict the penitentiary in its closed state. Still the only people allowed on the island are employees of the state. Even though we are harvesting only yards from the beach, none of the crews are allowed to set foot on that beach. This island brings back many memories. This is where the Fokkerdog and I lived for 6 weeks while going through narcotics canine training. In 2005 when he was just a pup of 1 year old we spent it out here starting in the month of september. For those of you that are not aware, the “Bigfokkerdog” name is attributed to him. His registered name is Talor’d Fokkerdog Des Campagnons. We worked together as one of the best known narcotics detection teams in Washington State. He retired at the age of 10 and now lives with us at home. He is old and starting to show that age now even though he tries not to. A monster dog with a larger than life attitude and work ethic, I’ll love him long after he is gone.
12 years old.
