Our ideal rv
Well, we went trolling RV lots on Monday and found our ideal fifth wheel. The Forest River Cedar Creek 34RE. A rear entertainment unit with all of our boxes ticked. The only problem with them is they come standard with a queen size bed in a king size slide out so the bed can be swapped out. 6 point hydraulic jacks and a nice clean functional management system for all your utilities. We like the RE (rear entertainment) layout as it has the TV on a Television Elevator (TELEVATOR) that drops the TV out of sight and leaves a nice big window to enjoy the outside views with. We have been told that the RE model is less desirable than the rear living models. The only problem is that they have an MSRP of 70 thousand. We could afford it but don’t really want to be stuck with a 15 year loan on it. Ahhhh, first world problems. Lol.
I think we’ll wait and see how much they want to deal in a couple months. It’s a 2016 modeland as you know, the RV industry has already started releasing the 17 models. Clearance sale soon?
We have looked at all the classes of RV’s out there and have decided that we definitely prefer the Fifth wheel for our needs.
Bumper pull trailers are nice and have some great amenities but are limited in their capabilities based upon the inherent nature of their design. We feel they are great for the couple or family that doesn’t want to spend the money on a 3/4 ton or larger diesel truck. They are less expensive than the fifth wheel units and are lighter. There are great styles and amenities that cater from the little retro looking micro to the huge bunkhouse models. I have had a couple of bumper pulls and they can be quite comfortable and easy to use.
The Class C motorhomes have some really nice features and we feel that they are great for the couple or family that wants to have a fully self contained unit that they can actually drive into town and around without a lot of specialized learning. They range from the new little units that are streamlined and look like a van with slideouts to the huge Super C models. I have experience with this model in my past and it worked very well for what we did back then.
The Class A motorhomes…..what can I say about them? All you have to do is pick a maker and model and go into them. They have some really great amenities. We have seen them with marble tile and fixtures you don’t find in most stick built homes. These are definitely the way to go if they fit your lifestyle. Our issue with them is that they require you to have a towable dinghy car for driving around. We also find that an equivalent size fifth wheel has more perceived room in it and we feel that we can have more privacy for the equivalent size. The battle over diesel versus gasser engines in the class A is another story. There are a lot of gassers out there and the manufacturers are willing to discount them fairly quickly. The diesels seem to not get the discounts from the dealers that you get with a gasser. All we see with them is a mounting price tag at the bottom line what with the purchase of the coach (diesel for us), dinghy car, insurance, extra outfitting.
For those of you who say I’m just happy with a fifth wheel because that’s what we chose to go with you’d be right. However, I have experience with all the other classes of coach and we have been looking at them all in our quest for what we see as the right RV for us. We only ruled out coach classes as we looked at them and spent hours sitting in them. Of course, I already had The Beast to tow with so we did not have to expend the 50k for him when looking at the coach.
Any way, we have found what we think is the ideal coach. Just waiting for the dealer to decide they want to come down to our price point.
