Harvest Hosts/BW

Is it worth it today?

In my opinion, Yes!

Yes, we bit the bullet a few years ago and started off with the premium HH with the golf course addition. We let the golf course add-on go since we are not golfers (we used one golf course in the initial year), We were happy with using both the independant Boondockers Welcome as well as Harvest Hosts. Now that they are combined, it is very simple to book and get information on both our favorite apps.

The savings (even with the new recommended $30 spend request for HH) is still better than staying at most RV parks. During our trip from Custer State Park to Turning Stone casino in Upstate New York we used (exclusively) HH/BW and were very happy with each host location. We have found each host that we contacted to be very open and friendly. These hosts have taken the time and effort to improve their locations so that they are welcoming to us nomads.

Over the years of membership, we have not used the services offered very often, usually due to wanting electricity for our A/C units.  This year I decided that we needed to make use of HH/BW or drop the membership.  On our trip From South Dakota to New York, Florida, Nevada and points in between, I have booked us at several host locations.  I have noticed a lot of the hosts now offer electricity in some fashion and many of them offer multiple night stays if arranged in advance.

Let’s talk annual cost;

The basic classic level costs under $100.

Classic and BW cost me $119.

Full access to everything is $129.

There are other plans available if you want to check them out over at harvesthosts.com.

So far, the savings gleaned from using the HH/BW system has absolutely paid for itself with savings over the trip.  The cost is equivalent to many state parks across the country with very similar amenities, especially with the addition of electricity on most HH/BW properties.

Do you need to join a club?  Not really.  We started off with no membership other than Good Sam for the discount at Camping World.  We added the Escapees for the mail service once we decided to go full time full time.

There are several different clubs out there and we recommend that you do your own evaluation of them to see which, if any, fit your needs.

We do feel that the recent acquisition of Escapees by HH is a little unsettling and we will ride it out to see what the two clubs (the original owners of Escapees are maintaining the mail service and one park) eventually become.

Until Next Time, Jones says, Let’s go.
