Prescott
Well, we got a great nights rest at The Motor Lodge. Got up the next morning to 48 degree temperature and dew on everything outside. Made a cup of coffee……BEST cup of coffee from a package I have ever had at a hotel.
Off exploring today. The plan was to spend most of the day in Sedona. R.P. has wanted to see Sedona for years, it just never seems that we get there even when we are as close as Flagstaff. We made a stop at COSTCO for diesel which just coincidentally happens to be the only one in Arizona that sells diesel at this time. $2.04/gallon. …….WOOHOO!!!
We decide to hit the mining town of Jerome on the way so off we go on Hwy 89 north, what scenery! This route is not for the faint of heart, there are more twists and turns on this road than in a pot of spaghetti. The edge of the road is often right at the drop off in to a canyon hundreds of feet below. There are no pictures of that as I was busy driving and I think R.P. had her eyes closed through some of it.
All of a sudden, you come on this spot and see the valley through a notch….
After a brief respite here we drove around that point in the far distant left and attacked that pan of spaghetti again. I think it was 40 miles and two days later we arrived in Jerome.
yep, there was even an officer in when we went by.
So we went into almost every store and curio shop in Jerome. There are really some very cool shops there and the old saying of shop til you drop comes true as the elevation change from street to street can be 3 stories……what a workout. We really appreciated seeing the items that are made in the area being sold at the shops, you do see a lot of the mass production stuff but those just make you appreciate the local made stuff even more.
After spending a couple hours there we pointed Da Beast down the hill and into the valley through cottonwood and into Sedona.
So we drove around Sedona for a bit, and the R.P. decided she wanted to head for a couple of art galleries. I pointed The Beast into the canyon and turn into Tlaquepaque. We found nice shaded parking in the gravel and walked in through the snoozing bears.
So, after about 10 galleries, R.P. tells me she is a little overwhelmed. Needless to say I was a little bit shocked as galleries are her thing! We finally managed to work our way through the shops and galleries and decided it was time for us to grab light bite snack.
R.P. found a place called Javelinas and we headed up to have nachos on their patio. Both the nachos and the patio were great!
Off to explore a little and we found cathedral rock and the chapel of the holy cross. The chapel was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, cathedral rock was designed by mother nature.
It was then time to plug some coordinates into Rocky and point The Beast back toward Cottonwood where we had reservations at the Blazin’ M Ranch for a “cowboy show and dinner”.
